“Ajo që do të bëjmë nga sot deri në vitin 2030 do të ndikojë ndjeshëm tek situata, dhe do të shërbejë për të kuptuar nëse jemi në gjendje të përmbushim angazhimet tona afatgjata“, tha Presidenti Biden.
“Një nga gjërat më të rëndësishme që mund të bëjmë në këtë dekadë vendimtare, e që të ruajmë kufirin prej 1.5 gradë celcius të ngrohjes globale, është pakësimi i emetimit të gazit të metanit, sa më shpejt të jetë e mundur“, shtoi ai.
Metani është një gaz që kontribuon drejtpërdrejt në ngrohjen globale. Metani emetohet gjatë prodhimit dhe transportit të qymyrit, gazit natyror dhe naftës. Po kështu blegtoria, aktivitetet bujqësore apo landfillet prodhojnë sasi të mëdha të këtij gazi.
Të martën, administrata e Presidentit Biden bëri publike një plan që bën bashkë sektorë të ndryshëm të qeverisë amerikane, duke përfshirë departamentet e energjisë, bujqësisë, transportit, strehimit dhe departamentin e brendshëm, në përpjekjet për të ulur emetimin e gazit të metanit.
Ky plan synon që Shtetet e Bashkuara të arrijnë objektivat në përputhje me një premtim global për reduktimin e metanit, sipas të cilit emetuesit më të mëdhenj në botë, synojnë të pakësojnë deri në vitin 2030, emetimin e përgjithshëm të metanit me 30% nën nivelet e vitit 2020.
“Reduktimi i emetimit të metanit është thelbësor për të mbajtur nivelet e ngrohjes globale nën 1.5 gradë Celcius”, tha Helen Mountford, nënpresidente e Institutit për Burimeve Botërore, e cila trajton çështje të ekonomisë dhe klimës. “Ky premtim nga mbi 90 vende për të ulur emetimin e gazit metan me të paktën 30% gjatë dekadës së ardhshme vendos një bazë të fortë për sa i përket ambicieve që na duhen globalisht. Veprimi i fortë dhe i shpejtë për të pakësuar emetimin e metanit ofron një sërë përfitimesh, nga kufizimi i ngrohjes afatshkurtër dhe frenimi i ndotjes së ajrit, tek përmirësimi i sigurisë ushqimore dhe shëndeti më i mirë publik“, shtoi ai./VOA
